Uprise Energy's Mobile Wind Turbine: An Innovative Solution Showcased at TEVCON 2024

We are pleased to share an insightful interview featuring our co-founder and CEO, Jonathan Knight, conducted by Steve Yandrich of Saniset Fleet at the TEVCON 2024 military convention in beautiful San Diego. In this engaging conversation, Jonathan discusses the groundbreaking features of the Uprise Energy Mobile Wind Turbine—the world's first commercially sized portable wind turbine—and how it's poised to revolutionize energy generation in remote and off-grid locations.

Key Highlights from the Interview

Innovating Mobile Renewable Energy

Jonathan introduces our mobile wind turbine as more than just a portable power source; it's a mobile nanogrid that generates, stores, and delivers clean energy wherever it's needed. Designed to overcome the limitations of traditional diesel generators, this solution leverages wind and solar energy to recharge its large-capacity batteries, providing uninterrupted power in various settings—from military operations to remote communities lacking reliable electricity.

Cost-Effective Alternative to Diesel Generators

A significant advantage highlighted is the substantial cost savings compared to diesel generators. Jonathan explains that while diesel generators can cost about $1 per kilowatt-hour due to fuel expenses and inefficiencies, our wind turbine generates power at approximately 7 to 25 cents per kilowatt-hour. Over a 20-year period, users can save roughly $2 million in fuel costs alone, making it not only a sustainable choice but also an economically savvy one.

Ease of Deployment and Mobility

The mobility and quick setup of our wind turbine are game-changers in the field of portable energy. Towable by a standard 3/4-ton pickup truck, the entire system folds into itself for easy transportation. Upon arrival, it can be fully operational in about 15 minutes, ensuring rapid deployment in critical situations without the logistical challenges associated with fuel supply and generator setup.

Advanced Blade Technology for Efficiency

Jonathan delves into the specialized blade design that sets our turbine apart. By collaborating with the preeminent blade designer in the world, we optimized the blade shape to perform exceptionally at a 10 mph / 4.5 m/s wind speed, which is the global average and lower than what conventional turbines require. This innovation allows our turbine to generate power efficiently in conditions where traditional turbines might not operate effectively.

Current Deployments and Partnerships

The interview touches on our ongoing projects and collaborations:

  • California Energy Commission (CEC): We're commercializing our technology in partnership with the CEC, demonstrating its capabilities across California in simulated emergencies, military bases, and municipalities.

  • Idaho National Laboratory: A unit is currently operating at this U.S. Department of Energy facility, showcasing the practical applications of our technology.

  • Production and Orders: We're in production and actively taking orders, ramping up to meet the growing demand for sustainable, portable energy solutions.

The Future of Distributed Energy

Jonathan emphasizes the shift towards distributed energy generation. By producing power where it's consumed, we reduce reliance on centralized grids and minimize energy loss during transmission—often up to 50% in traditional systems due to friction in power lines. Our technology aligns with the global trend towards renewable, locally generated energy, contributing to a more sustainable and efficient energy paradigm.
